Writer’s Institute Publications is the publishing arm of the Writer’s Institute, Inc. It publishes courses, training materials, textbooks, trade books, and newsletters for writers. Its book publishing program was initiated in the early 1980’s to produce market directories of children’s magazine and book publishers. Over the years the company’s publishing program has expanded to fill needs in the writers’ marketplace, to include a directory of the best general-audience freelance-buying magazines, an annual review of the children’s field, and how-to trade books that cover writing and language skills, time management, morale and inspiration, and genre reviews.

Since 1979, Writer’s Bookstore has provided writers with unique books and resources to develop and refine their skills.  We offer materials writers can use to gain the best possible “competitive edge”—with the latest and best perspectives on writing techniques, publishers wants and needs, the development of the craft, and the state of the industry.

 

Since 1969, the Institute of Children’s Literature has offered the premier writing courses and training to adults interested in learning how to write for children and teens, and how to get their work published. The hallmark of our courses is one-on-one personalized instruction from a faculty of active professional writers and experienced editors.

     College credits are available for all courses. Instruction is conveniently available everywhere via the traditional home study method—with lessons exchanged either through the mail or via the Internet.

Long Ridge Writers Group, established in 1989, develops courses and training programs to teach aspiring authors how to write to publication standards, to find their own writing niche—and how to sell their writing to publishers. All training is by the mentor method, and all instructors are professional writers or editors, active in the current market, who develop teaching plans to meet the needs and goals of each aspiring writer.  College credits are available for all courses. Instruction is conveniently available everywhere via the traditional home study method—with lessons exchanged either through the mail or via the Internet.

 

Since 1990, Children's Writer, a  monthly 12-page newsletter, has helped writers hone their work for the best available freelance markets.  It is best known for its in-depth feature articles and its extensive “Marketplace” section that reports on publishers’ wants and needs for freelance writers.  The newsletter tracks and analyzes market trends by reporting on the latest insights from 35 to 60 editors per month, covering different genres and publishers each month.  Additional articles regularly cover writers’ issues such as agents, idea generation, time management, breaking writers’ block, and morale and inspiration.
